The Monitoring of Disease in European Wildlife by the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) Paris
![]() |
Since 1995 the Wildlife Diseases working group of the OIE has collected information concerning diseases that can have an important effect on free-ranging wildlife populations. An understanding of these diseases is important for the conservation of wild animals worldwide and for safe international movement of wildlife, both wild and captive. |

The intention is to obtain as much information as possible about wildlife diseases. A report on the information obtained through these questionnaires is published annually by the OIE Wildlife Disease Working Group and is sent to each reporting individual and to all CVOs (OIE Delegates) worldwide. |

The EWDA (European Section of the Wildlife Disease Association) have been reporting to the OIE on significant diseases in Europe for several years. This contribution is supported by an increasing number of contributors. We would like to thank all the persons involved in collecting and summarising data on wildlife health and diseases in Europe. Year after year the interest of this report is increasing. It is slowly becoming a part of the decision making process in veterinary public health regarding the wildlife of our continent. |
